Art & Music
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.” Psalm 95:1
“It is a blessing to sing with the 9 a.m. Contemporary Ensemble. One of those blessings is the intergenerational nature of the group, with many of us sharing the experience with family members. Over the years I’ve sung with our daughter Angie, and our son Stephen often plays the drums. Even Kristin, a Chinese exchange student who lived with us for two years, chose to join the group, giving her a window into the Catholic faith. Most of all, as we serve God and the greater community of St. Hilary, we have formed a Christian community in which that anyone of any age can feel comfortable.” Anna Hall, Singer in Adult Choir

Liturgy and music are at the heart of what we do as Catholic Christians. This Choir provides music for the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass, as well as special liturgies and seasonal programs. Membership is open to children (4th grade and up) teens and adults with pleasant singing voices. Although the ability to read music is optional, being able to sing “SATB” scores is helpful.
Cantors function as leaders of our sung worship: announcing hymns, singing the responsorial psalm, intoning the Gospel acclamation and supporting sung music during liturgy. A pleasant voice and a welcoming demeanor is essential, as well as musical ability and sensitivity to liturgy. The ministry is open to anyone high school age or older. Training is provided.
The Hand Bell Choir enhances the celebration of liturgies throughout the year. The ability to read music and a sense of rhythm are important. Membership is open to teens and adults.
