Kelly & Cory Treharn, Parishioners since 2011
“After we both graduated from college, we wanted to find a parish where we could start our lives together. Cory had decided that he wanted to officially join the Catholic Church and go through RCIA, so finding the right parish was critical. We decided to give St. Hilary a try and fell in love immediately. In 2014, we were married by Father Brunovsky at St. Hilary.
Later that year, we joined a small Christian community for newly married couples. Our faith has grown tremendously, our marriage has become stronger and we have found a family in the group. Even though we have since moved to a neighboring city and the drive is much longer, we can’t bear to leave St. Hilary!

Michael and Debi have been members of St. Hilary Parish since the 1980s and were married at St. Hilary Church in Sept. 2014. Their “blended” family includes five children, 3 spouses and two grandsons.
As members of St. Hilary Parish, Michael and Debi have served on Parish Council for three years each and have learned the “inner workings” of the Church. They both feel honored to serve as Eucharistic Ministers at the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass. As Adult Altar Servers, they have served daily Mass and currently serve at funeral Masses. Michael and Debi participate in Thursday morning Bible Studies and have enjoyed learning the in-depth meaning of Scripture which has enhanced the growth of their faith. Both have made the Men’s and Women’s Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) Retreat and have been on the Team as Hosts, a very moving faith community experience in their Christ centered journey.

“I’ve always felt a welcoming presence at St. Hilary since moving down to Akron after college. One of my early encounters was when I finally decided to go to the Young Adult Ministry bowling night and the now Father Eric Garris warmly welcomed me when I was looking bewildered. Since that time, I’ve been active with the young adults and made several friends, giving me an opportunity to dig deeper into the faith alongside others. More recently, I’ve been able to assist with the young adult events and share insight with the church. I hope to offer the same welcoming community that I experienced to others through these efforts.
Besides the young adult ministry, I’ve also enjoyed being part of the handbell choir. I had been hoping to utilize my musical abilities after college and was happy to have the opportunity that Dave Dettloff offered with the music ministry. They are a wonderful group of people that strives forward with the same clear goal in mind. In addition, I’ve been able to assist the local area through the Knights of Columbus, which enables me to be part of another engaging community.
Through these activities, as well as the many offerings of life-giving worship and prayer, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at St. Hilary and hope others can too!
