Joan Heegan, Parish Secretary
Joan was born in the Bronx, New York, raised in New Jersey, and moved to Ohio in June 1975; following her father’s travels with Goodyear. With one year left in high school, Joan attended St. Vincent-St. Mary her senior year and graduated in 1976. She worked for Goodyear for 10 years in retail accounting, then left to raise a family.
She is the divorced mother of two. She was blessed to be a stay at home mother. Both of her children followed the tradition of attending high school at STVM! Justin is a graduate of John Carroll with a degree in marketing. Katie received her degree in advertising from John Carroll as well.
Joan worked for 10 years as a secretary in the Tallmadge school district. Before she joined St. Hilary in April of 2013, she worked for two years as Church Administrator for St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Both jobs were only part-time, so the full-time position at St. Hilary was just perfect.
Joan is very active at St. Hilary. She is a lector, Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion, and is a contributing writer for Ministry of Praise. She has been involved in Stewardship, Evangelization, Core Leader of Lifeteen, and Core member of the Faith Alive Retreat.
She loves cooking, baking, nature, reading and Facebook. She has maintained her New York accent stating, “You can take the girl out of the Bronx, but you can’t take the Bronx out of the girl!” She has come through some incredibly challenging times and has adopted Philippians 4:13 as her motto: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
